Events can be a great way to stimulate a local area – bringing a cash injection from out-of-town visitors, raising the profile of an area and local businesses to visitors and migrants, or simply bringing a community closer together.

In addition to developing a connection with your organization, people attending events build relationships with each other and strengthen the community. There’s power in attending an event and seeing other people who support the same cause, follow the same blog, or support a local team. Meeting like-minded individuals in person will also encourage more active engagement online!

An event branded as the Business Pfirst Luncheon is hosted quarterly by the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) and features diverse topics presented by local, regional, and national host experts.  The topic in February, Workforce in Pfocus, was presented to a sold-out crowd and is a great example of how an event can ignite a community around a topic of interest.  The speakers and panelists candidly discussed challenges for employers, workforce and economic development organizations, and education professionals as they had dialog on how to build a stronger workforce pipeline.

Tom Stellman, CEO and Founder of TIP Strategies was one of the speakers on occasion. He highlighted national and regional trends impacting workforce availability, and shared best practices on how local economic development and training organizations could effectively work together to help deliver a skilled workforce.

Following the presentation, he was joined by panelists Commissioner Aaron Demerson, Texas Workforce Commission, and Ed Latson, Austin Regional Manufacturing Association, as they discussed how local employers can enhance their workforce development efforts.

Special thanks to our panelists,  Tom Stellman,  and Ed Latson of the Austin Regional Manufacturers Association for a robust discussion on workforce trends, challenges, and innovation in the region.

A shout out to our hosting sponsor, Courtyard by Marriott Austin Pflugerville and Pflugerville Conference Center, and our program sponsor, RBFCU for making the whole event a great success!
