Press Release

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (December 19, 2024) — The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) approved a $600,000 funding allocation for significant enhancements to the new Downtown East Plaza during its regular board meeting on December 18. Using funds budgeted by the PCDC for community and quality-of-life projects, the PCDC’s support of the plaza fosters a dynamic play space and versatile stage, enriching community interactions by providing diverse recreational and entertainment options.

The Downtown East Project is located at the northwest corner of FM 685 and Pecan Street and includes a plaza, Multi-Generational Recreation Center and City Hall. The Downtown East Plaza will become a central hub for community engagement, blending both leisurely and active recreational opportunities.

"Downtown East is a project about legacy, contemporaries and posterity. Together PCDC and the City are partnering on a communal space that will help stimulate growth in our downtown,” said Jeffrey Thompson, PCDC Board President. "A project like this comes about through collaboration. Everyone has critical roles to play to help this project thrive. We remain aligned with the City Council’s vision for the future and the expectations of residents for prosperity and quality of life.”

The plaza will cover approximately one acre and offer a great lawn, various games, ample seating and infrastructure to support local festivals. Additionally, it will allow for the extension of programming from the Multi-Generational Recreation Center to outdoor activities, fostering a seamless integration of indoor and outdoor community spaces.

The funding approval follows previous support by both the PCDC Board and the Pflugerville City Council to allocate funds in the PCDC’s FY25 Budget for community and quality-of-life projects, reflecting a strong commitment to advancing the city's recreational and economic development goals.
