PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (March 3, 2016)—Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) Director of Business Retention and Expansion/Operations Christian Kurtz attended an economic development professional training program, Economic Development Credit Analysis, held by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The four-day course was Feb. 9-12 in Orlando, Fla.
Kurtz took the course as part of his effort to become a Certified Economic Developer, often indicated by CEcD after an economic development professional’s name.
“It is critical that our team of economic development professionals continually invest in education. We want to expand our knowledge and always be on the cutting edge of industry trends and understanding what is available to us to enable us to facilitate business growth and success in Pflugerville,” PCDC Executive Director Amy Madison said. “Christian is a great asset to our PCDC staff and we support his goals to become a certified economic development professional.”
The training Kurtz attended presented the basics of structuring deals for small businesses that often combine public and private sector financing programs.
“Staying current with changes in all areas of economic development are important to better help us grow Pflugerville and Pflugerville’s businesses the right way,” Kurtz said.
This hands-on course presented business financing tools and available private financing options, as well as how the public sector can complement bank financing. Participants learned how to stimulate private sector investment that results in the creation of permanent, private sector jobs and increased productivity. Course participants also performed credit analysis by determining how well a company buys and sells to make a profit. Instructors taught the class how to read financial reports, financial statements, balance sheets and profit and loss statements.
