Press Release

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (April 26, 2019) — Mayor Pro Tem Omar Pena recognized the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) during the April 23 regular Pflugerville City Council meeting with a proclamation declaring May 6-10, 2019 “Economic Development Week” and celebrating the work of the PCDC within the community. This is the third year that the week has been sponsored by the International Economic Development Council and the first time it has been celebrated in the City of Pflugerville recognizing the unique role that economic development has in creating a vibrant and robust local economy.

“We are excited to host the inaugural Pflugerville Economic Development Week by partnering with the Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce and our local businesses in a weeklong celebration,” Amy Madison, PCDC Executive Director said. “The campaign allows us to highlight the professional economic development programs and services that have helped build the third fastest growth community and have promoted the creation of primary jobs, capital investment and support for workforce education initiatives.”

As part of the upcoming National Economic Development Week (NEDW) created by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the largest professional membership organization for economic developers, the PCDC and Chamber of Commerce will join other organizations nationwide to increase awareness and the role of economic development and its positive impacts on local communities.

“We recognize the positive impact that PCDC has on our community, as we celebrate Economic Development Week," Mayor Victor Gonzales said. "Economic development creates jobs as it brings new businesses and improves the quality of life in Pflugerville by focusing on diverse organizations. As developers come to Pflugerville and employers bring diversity in career offerings, this enhances our culture and offers residents the opportunity to acquire a high-quality job here in Pflugerville."

Developed in 2016 by the IEDC, NEDW had more than 250 communities participate across the U.S. and Canada in 2018. Cities, counties, and states recognized the week in the past through official proclamations, local community events, and informational campaigns online and through social media. The United States Economic Development Administration has also issued a statement commemorating NEDW in the past.
