PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (May 11, 2022) — Mayor Victor Gonzales recognized the importance of local economic development professionals during the May 10th regular Pflugerville City Council meeting with a proclamation declaring May 9-13, 2022 “National Economic Development Week,” and noted the ongoing work of the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) and their commitment to providing upskilling opportunities and jobs to Pflugerville residents.
“Now, more than ever, economic development is crucial to creating the community we want to see and building the workforce of our future,” said Mayor Victor Gonzales. “This proclamation recognizes the continued efforts of the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation for their dedication in creating, retaining, and expanding jobs that forge growth and quality of life in Pflugerville.”
Now in its sixth year, National Economic Development Week was created by the International Economic Development Council, the largest professional membership organization for economic developers to recognize the unique role that economic development has in creating vibrant communities with strong economies.
“Working to grow and maintain the regional economy to benefit our citizens is truly a team effort,” said Amy Madison, PCDC Executive Director. “We thank all of our economic development partners at the City of Pflugerville, Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce, Pflugerville Independent School District, and Workforce Solutions Capital Area for all they do to help our community prosper.”
In 2021, the PCDC celebrated its 20th Anniversary as an Economic Development organization and ended the milestone year by recruiting 10 projects that will bring 867 full-time jobs and occupy 634,0000 sqft. The PCDC hosted its anniversary celebration alongside 48 past and present PCDC Board Alumni. As Economic Development Week begins, the PCDC celebrates four projects announced this year bringing 977 full-time jobs and $93M in capital investment.
Over the span of five years, more than 450 National Economic Development campaigns have been created throughout the United States and Canada, creating millions of impressions, hundreds of news stories, blog entries, videos, events, and other activities. Cities, counties, and states recognized the week in past years through official proclamations, local community events, and informational campaigns online and through social media. The United States Economic Development Administration (EDA) has also issued a statement commemorating Economic Development Week in past years.
