Updated: 6:55 a.m. Wednesday

Accent Food Services will build a new, 55,000-square-foot office, warehouse and distribution center at 2919 A.W. Grimes Blvd.

“Accent Food Services is a well-established, rapidly growing, national break room food services distributor that needed more space, and we are glad we could provide that opportunity and keep them here in Central Texas,” Pflugerville Community Development Corp. Executive Director Amy Madison said. “This is the fifth regional headquarters in the past two years that has chosen Pflugerville as the place where they want to expand and grow.”

The PCDC Board of Directors approved an economic development agreement with Accent Food Services at a March 16 meeting, and the Pflugerville City Council provided final approval March 28. The incentive package requires Accent Food Services to relocate 85 full-time employees by Dec. 31 and provide health care benefits in addition to an average annual salary of $55,000. The company must also add five full-time employees per year starting Jan. 1, 2018, through 2020. If requirements are met, PCDC will provide a $30,000 per year grant for five years, not to exceed $150,000 total.

The Pflugerville City Council Tuesday approved agreements that will bring two new companies to the city.

Pflugerville Community Development Corporation announced MW Builders, a general contractor, will relocate and expand its Central Texas regional headquarters at Pflugerville’s 130 Commerce Center. This marks the city’s fourth regional headquarters recruited by the PCDC in the past two years, according to PCDC Executive Director Amy Madison.

“After constructing more than 400,000 square feet in our business park and other areas in the community, MW Builders decided to make Pflugerville the company’s home,” Madison said. “With our significant growth and nimble response to development projects, MW Builders will have many opportunities to do more projects locally in the near term. We look forward to a great partnership growing the community together.”

The FedEx Ground building and the Cortec Precision Sheetmetal manufacturing facility, both in Pflugerville, are among MW Builders’ many projects in the area.

MW Builders closed on a 1.5-acre tract of land purchased from PCDC in January. The property, located at the southwest corner of SH 130 and Pecan Street, will be the site of MW Builders’ new regional headquarters—a 20,000-square-foot, two-story office building for more than 30 employees. The company expects to break ground on the project this year.

As a member of Opportunity Austin, PCDC drew on the many resources it provides to recruit the company, Madison said.

“The Austin region’s assets provide an excellent foundation for the recruitment of regional headquarters,” said Charisse Bodisch, senior vice president of economic development at the Austin Chamber of Commerce. “On behalf of Opportunity Austin, we congratulate Pflugerville and join them in welcoming MW Builders to the local corporate community.”

MW Builders was founded in 1932 in Kansas City, Mo., as part of the incentive package approved by PCDC board of directors March 16 and Pflugerville City Council on March 28, the company must make a $4.8 million capital investment in its new Pflugerville facility and maintain 30 full-time employees with an average salary of $86,000 plus health care benefits for a minimum of five years. If these standards are met, PCDC will provide a $25,000 relocation grant annually for three years, not to exceed $75,000 total.

The second company, Accent Food Services, is a fast-growing food service company, which is Texas-based but expanding into the Mid Atlantic states, according to Madison.

In 1994, Tom and Rhonda Hawkins started Accent Food Services in Austin. Accent Food Services markets unattended retail solutions, of which they have more than 300 micro-markets. They also have 300 unique products, fresh food, convenience, electronics and traditional snack/beverages are delivered as a one-stop shop for the workplace, according to the company website. Coffee, filtered water, ice and break room provisions make up another segment of Accent. The company also just announced its purchase of Black Tie Vending Services.

The company will invest in a new regional headquarters at 2919 A.W. Grimes in Pflugerville. They will bring 85 employees, while a five-year incentive agreement calls for an additional five full-time employees to be added each year. Average salary for employees is $55,000 per year, according to Madison.

As long as the agreement for employees and a $4 million investment in land, improvements and machinery are met, Accent Food Services will receive $30,000 per year back in incentives for a total of $150,000.

“These are significant announcements for the community,” Madison said. “They are good companies to have in Pflugerville.”
