Pflugerville, Texas (September 24, 2024) — The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) has received two significant accolades from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The PCDC was awarded a Silver Award in the Annual Report Category for populations between 25,000 and 200,000 for their innovative 2023 Animated Annual Report and a Bronze Award in the Talent Development & Retention Category for the Mobile Training Lab, also in the 25,000 to 200,000 population categories.

“These awards from the IEDC reflect our team’s dedication to innovation and community impact,” said Terri Toledo, PCDC Interim Executive Director. “Our animated annual report and the Mobile Training Lab are not just projects; they are expressions of our commitment to connect with our community in meaningful ways. From the annual report which educates viewers and provides transparency on our economic development efforts to a mobile ambulance that trains the future of Pflugerville’s workforce, we will continue to strive for excellence in everything we do.”

The PCDC’s 2023 Animated Annual Report was recognized for its creative approach to highlighting the organization’s achievements and future plans. The report utilized engaging animations to effectively communicate complex information, making it accessible and visually appealing to the community.

The Bronze Award for the Mobile Training Lab showcases PCDC’s dedication to workforce development in Pflugerville. The Mobile Training Lab, developed in partnership with the Pflugerville Independent School District’s (PFISD) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training Program, includes a decommissioned ambulance that provides real-life training experiences for students. This initiative began in 2019 and reached completion in 2023, with PCDC investing $39K through its Community Engagement Grant to purchase the mobile training lab. The mobile lab, which began operating in July 2023, has been utilized across multiple campuses in the district, simulating a real-time environment for EMT students.

PfISD Mobile Training Lab is housed at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville.

The Mobile Training Lab represents the final piece of a comprehensive program enhancement that began with earlier investments in supplies, stretchers, and training mannequins. The ambulance, wrapped and maintained by the school district, serves as a fully functional mobile classroom, further enhancing the educational experience for EMT students.

"The PCDC is setting the standard of excellence for economic development with its Animated Annual Report and Mobile Training Lab projects. These awards highlight PCDC’s commitment to its community and demonstrate the transformative impact of economic development,” said Nathan Ohle, IEDC President and CEO, “It is with great pride that IEDC presents these awards to the PCDC, celebrating their leadership and innovation in the field of economic development."

Every year IEDC looks specifically for economic development organizations, government entities, initiatives, and programs that have demonstrated consistent, exemplary performance in the economic development profession, leading the execution of projects that have a significant impact on revitalizing communities, and playing a major role in shaping and improving the practice of economic development.
