PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (October 28, 2020) — The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) received top honors as the national Gold Award recipient recognizing PCDC as Economic Development Organization of the Year for populations 25,000 - 200,000. The award was presented by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) during their annual conference last week and was recognized locally by Mayor Victor Gonzales during the October 27 City Council meeting.

“The PCDC is once again being recognized for their excellence, and as a result, this has put Pflugerville in an international spotlight as a destination for business,” Mayor Victor Gonzales said. “Success like this shows what is possible when the City Council, PCDC and the community work together.”

The award is based on a “360 review” of an economic development organization to recognize those who demonstrate long term strategic planning, organizational development, significant community impact, innovation and continuity, leadership quality and consistency, and measured metrics and performance benchmarks with clear objectives and goals resulting in community interaction and economic impact.

“The winners of IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development awards represent the very best of economic development and exemplify the ingenuity, integrity, and leadership that our profession strives for each and every day,” said 2020 IEDC Board Chair and One Columbus CEO Kenny McDonald. “We’re honored to recognize Pflugerville Community Development Corporation as the Economic Development Organization of the Year in their population category.”

In the application, the PCDC noted partnerships with community leaders, organizations and strategic partners that helped produce a record year for PCDC in spite of a pandemic, resulting in 1,478 new jobs and $317MM in capital investment, according to Amy Madison, PCDC Executive Director.

“This was our single best year in PCDC history largely due to our partnership with Amazon.com bringing $250MM in capital investment and over 1,000 jobs, but we have seven other projects that also help contribute to a sustainable pathway for the unemployed and underemployed in our community this year,” she added.

During the IEDC annual conference, the PCDC also received a Silver Award in the Paid Advertising Campaign category based on the “Pfab Pfour” story in Site Selection Magazine showcasing women in city leadership; a Silver Award for its Pflugerville High Demand Job Training Grant Program, a project in the Talent Development and Retention category for providing emergency medical training equipment to Pflugerville ISD; and Bronze Award for an anthem video featuring Pflugerville as a top destination for business, a project in the category of Multimedia/Video Promotion.
