PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (October 12, 2023) — The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) received two 2023 Excellence in Economic Development Bronze Awards from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The awards were bestowed specifically for the organization’s work in both the Special Events and Innovation Programs & Initiatives category.  PCDC Executive Director, Amy Madison, was acknowledged and honored at the IEDC 2023 Annual Conference during the inaugural Recognition Night event in Dallas, TX, on September 19.

The first Bronze Award was earned in the Special Event category for the Business Pfirst: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion event. The event, which was held in July 2022, highlighted the values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) that have been foundational in shaping the City of Pflugerville’s distinctive character. The event showcased Pflugerville's proactive engagement in DEI initiatives and revealed its forward-thinking plans for nurturing a more inclusive and diverse future.

The second award was in the Innovation Programs & Initiatives category, recognizing "The Way to Impact" project which highlighted the expansion of Impact Way in the One Thirty Business Park. The PCDC acquired 167 acres in 2007, and from what was initially deemed as 24 undevelopable acres, the organization has carved out an expanding hub of economic activity. The commitment to maximizing the potential of every acre resulted in innovative resolutions, including the formation of a private "shared" drive, ensuring enhanced utility and access to additional acres south of the PCDC property. In 2022, contracts were awarded to DCS Engineering and Joe Bland Construction, and the expansion of the road began. On September 20, 2023, the PCDC hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially celebrate the completion of the Impact Way Road Expansion, a $2.8 million project. Within the developed 24 acres, EVS Metal has purchased 14.4 acres where they plan to establish a new 164,000-square-foot facility. The remaining 8.8 acres are currently under consideration by a single tenant.

Furthering development opportunities, the PCDC has strategically acquired an additional 17-acre tract, which is now shovel-ready due to the meticulous execution of the road extension. This development of Impact Way launches the expansion possibilities for an extra 120 acres to the south, promising an enhancement in the tax base and the generation of primary jobs underscoring the project's substantial contribution to economic growth and community development.

“These awards are a testament to our unwavering dedication to driving economic development, embracing diversity, and implementing innovative solutions,” said Amy Madison, Executive Director of the PCDC. “The recognition of our DEI efforts, innovative economic strategies, and the realization of projects like the expansion of Impact Way in the One Thirty Business Park exemplify our mission to cultivate a prosperous and inclusive Pflugerville.”

The IEDC awards symbolize not only the acknowledgment of the PCDC’s extraordinary efforts but also serve as motivation to persistently advance economic and community development through innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability in Pflugerville.

"The PCDC has raised the bar for excellence in economic development with its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and The Way to Impact projects. These awards are a testament to the PCDC’s dedication to its residents and serve as a great example of how economic development can help transform a community for the better," said Nathan Ohle, IEDC President and CEO. “It is IEDC’s honor and privilege to present the PCDC with this award and recognize its leadership and innovation in the field of economic development!”

Every year IEDC looks specifically for economic development organizations, government entities, initiatives, and programs that have demonstrated consistent, exemplary performance in the economic development profession, leading the execution of projects that have a significant impact on revitalizing communities and playing a major role in shaping and improving the practice of economic development.
