Press Release

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (August 21, 2023) — The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) Board of Directors approved a $150,000 investment to fund major enhancements to Royal Pointe Park.

The initial schedule was to replace the 19-year-old playground in 2027, however, the PCDC and Parks and Recreation Department expedited the necessary upgrades long awaited by the community. The PCDC is a Type B corporation, allowing the organization to invest in both economic ventures and community projects like parks and sports facilities. This dual focus helps drive business growth while also enhancing local recreational spaces.

“We are excited about the support and funding provided by the PCDC for the department's playground replacement program. The average age of our system's playgrounds has gone from over 12 years old to 8.33 currently,” said Shane Mize, Director of Pflugerville Parks and Recreation Department. “Once Royal Pointe Park’s playground replacement is complete, the average age will dip to 7.7 years old.”

The Parks and Recreation Royal Pointe Park improvements supported by the PCDC are as follows:

  • Replacement of two aging playscapes
  • Replace wooden borders with stone
  • New shade for picnic area
  • Basketball court upgrade
  • New swings and hardware, including toddler swing

“Our collaboration with the Parks and Recreation Department is an investment in the future of Pflugerville, and a strong driver for economic development. These community development projects help to attract and retain a skilled workforce, lead to increased consumer spending, foster an environment for entrepreneurship and innovation, and lower healthcare costs for employers,” said Amy Madison, PCDC Executive Director. “As partners, we are creating quality recreational facilities that attract families, businesses, and investors, making our city an even more desirable place to live, work, and play."

In June, the PCDC supported improvements to fund new shade structures to both Black Locust Park and Pflugerville Heights Park. Now, there are 25 playgrounds citywide with shade. Additionally, the PCDC funded the National Fitness Court, designed to provide a full-body workout; another demonstration of PCDC’s commitment to the community’s health and well-being.

Residents of Pflugerville can look forward to enjoying these enhancements in the coming months, marking a new chapter in the legacy of Royal Pointe Park.
