“Our business is very high tech and the fact there are so many technology companies here allows us to draw from a lot of great talent in this area.” – Russell Aldrige, Owner/President
In 2013, founder Russell Aldridge made the decision to set up his industrial automation and robotics company, Sisu Devices, in Pflugerville. The rapidly growing company purchased a machining shop in 2013 making it necessary to relocate into its current business park location at 1520 Royston Lane. Now Sisu occupies 5,600 square feet of space but has plans to more than triple its footprint to 17,600 by May 2017.
“We’re a home-grown company and we decided to stay in Pflugerville because it was close to our main customer, National Instruments,” Aldridge said. “And we’re in the center of Texas close to IH-35 and MOPAC and SH-130.”
The company, which was founded in 2010 in a Central Texas garage, designs and builds custom machines for semiconductor, food production, oil and gas, renewable energy, medical, and manufacturing companies around the world.
“Besides the tax advantages, easier building restrictions and faster development process, the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) supported us with additional incentives to create additional local, high-quality jobs,” Aldridge said. “The PCDC also helped us compare prices on space to determine which ones would be a good fit for our business and employees.”
Sisu hires a wide range of tech-savvy workers from engineers with four-year technical degrees to self-taught machinist with two years of trade school and assembly technicians trained in electro-mechanical assembly. Most of their 34 employees are from the area since Austin is a hotbed for high-tech talent.
Pflugerville’s location near Austin made the area attractive for Sisu’s employees and their young families. The area boasts amenities like recreation parks, skate parks and soccer fields which make Pflugerville an ideal community for them.
