As early as the early 1980's Austin business and civic leaders recognized the need for alternative north south access around the overburdened Interstate 35 - thus was born SH 130, a parallel interstate standards tolled highway alternative joining I-35 just north of Georgetown and extending south to Seguin just east of San Antonio, passing directly through the middle of Pflugerville's corporate city jurisdiction.

The tremendous growth of the entire north and west Austin area in the late 80's and 90's coupled with the high tech boom centered in northwest Austin and Round Rock fueled a long standing demand for a major east-west interstate type connector - SH 45, another interstate tolled highway beginning on the west side of Austin, continuing north and east through Round Rock, ending as it intersects SH 130 in Pflugerville.

Together the two tollway projects represent the largest highway building project in Texas since the Interstate Highway system fifty years ago.

More than six miles of the two projects and six exits and access roads will be in Pflugerville.
