Approximately 400 people were in attendance at Community Impact Newspaper today to celebrate the official grand opening of the Community Impact Printing facility in Pflugerville. Open since September 2016, the press prints all 22 newspapers for the Austin, Dallas and Houston metros.

Community Impact Newspaper Founder and CEO John Garrett expressed thanks to his staff, the city of Pflugerville, the Pflugerville Community Development Corp. and many other partners for their participation in making the printing press a reality.

“I’m so thankful to all of y’all for coming out,” Garrett said. “We have an amazing process, but the people really make this thing go.”

The San Marcos, Austin, Pflugerville, Hutto, Round Rock and Cedar Park chambers of commerce were represented at the ribbon cutting.

Garrett acknowledged that it might seem outdated to build a printing press nowadays, but he said it was an important for the paper to control its own destiny as well as keep up with the industry giants.

Pflugerville Mayor Victor Gonzalez also spoke at the ceremony, expressing gratitude for the positive influence Community Impact Newspaper has had on the community.

“We are very pleased and I am pleased to be part of Community Impact,” Gonzalez said. “We look forward to being continued partners with John (Garrett).”

Community Impact Printing relies on a Goss Magnum Compact printing press—the only one of its kind in Texas and one of only four of its kind globally.

The printing press has also had a positive impact on the community, according to company partners. Pflugerville Community Development Corporation Executive Director Amy Madison said the recent development of Community Impact Newspaper’s headquarters in Pflugerville helped catalyze the creation of more than 1,000 jobs in the immediate area.

“You really are Impacters, and we thank you for what you have done,” Madison said.
