Press Release

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (Oct. 23, 2018) – The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) and the Pflugerville Library announced today a new service that will be joining the staple of electronic resources available to the community. Lynda.com, a platform that offers over 7,000 professional development courses, will provide free access beginning Nov. 1 to any individual with a Pflugerville Library card.

At a special meeting Oct. 22, the PCDC Board of Directors awarded the library a $13,000 community challenge grant to fund the subscription to the Lynda.com service. Owned by LinkedIn, Lynda.com offers courses spanning a broad range of personal and professional development topics. With the addition of the new service, Pflugerville Library cardholders will have access to Lynda.com courses anywhere an internet connection is available, as well as through the existing computers at the library.

“Building a better workforce requires teamwork, collaboration and partnerships. The Pflugerville Library provides a natural learning environment – both online and offline – that is easily accessible by our community,” PCDC Executive Director Amy Madison said. “The PCDC saw this joint effort as an excellent use of the available resources and as something that will pay big dividends for our local employers by raising the bar for those who take of advantage of this type career development training.”

Looking to expand their professional development resources, library administrators have been working to bring Lynda.com to the community.

“We wanted to bring Lynda.com to Pflugerville because it aligned with our commitment to help develop an intelligent workforce through self-learning,” Pflugerville Library Assistant Director Daniel Berra said. “Patrons already utilize the library for work; now they have the ability to continue to develop their skill sets with the assistance of the Lynda.com courses.”

Business resources already available for use include access to electronic databases, flexible working spaces, public computers, public printing, scanning and copying, workspaces, free Wi-Fi throughout the building, knowledgeable staff assistance, specialized programming and technology-related classes, and additional career development materials for beginners, entrepreneurs and more.

Traditionally, library cards are free for residents who reside within the Pflugerville ISD, and cost just $25 annually for those who live beyond school district boundaries. However, as a new offering to help support local businesses, business owners and employees who work within the ISD boundaries are also eligible to receive a free card.

To obtain a library card, a valid driver’s license, state or military ID, a Mexican consulate card, or passport along with proof of residency, if not shown on the ID, is required. For nonresident business owners and employees eligible for the free card, a paystub or other documentation that shows their business address will be required.
