Wetzel Engineering Relocates to Pflugerville from Kansas
Wind energy, aviation and industrial applications engineering firm to bring approximately 48 jobs from out of state to Pflugerville.
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas—The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) today announced that Wetzel Engineering, which provides state-of-the-art engineering services for wind energy, aviation and various industrial applications, will relocate its corporate headquarters from Lawrence, Kan., to Pflugerville by Sept. 1.
Wetzel will move to an approximately 5,600-square-foot space at 821 Grand Avenue Parkway, Suite 410, where Community Impact Newspaper’s headquarters were located prior to the company’s move at the end of last year to 130 Commerce Center in Pflugerville. The Grand Avenue Parkway offices will house Wetzel’s executive team, research and development engineers and administrative staff.
PCDC Executive Director Floyd Akers was first introduced to the founder of the company, Kyle Wetzel, PhD, following a conference in Austin where Wetzel was presenting on the company’s fan blade technology.
“With our focus on renewable energy, the company is a perfect fit for Pflugerville and the Austin area provides Wetzel access to a skilled engineering workforce with amenities needed to retain talent long-term. It is a great fit for all,” Akers said.
Wetzel said his executive team made the decision to relocate to the area primarily due to workforce, but there were other reasons that made it attractive.
“Central Texas has a vibrant economy and a robust investor community looking to invest in small companies like ours,” Wetzel said. “Texas is also a hub of renewable energy and wind energy activity that is the focus of our business. The Pflugerville community also offers a pleasant and affordable place for our young employees to raise their families.”
Wetzel added that Pflugerville offered favorable incentives that offset some the costs of relocating the company and employees from Kansas.
As part of an economic development agreement approved by the PCDC Board of Directors May 29 and the Pflugerville City Council June 10, Wetzel has agreed to employ and provide medical benefits to at least 30 full-time employees at its facility located within the corporate city limits of Pflugerville within three years of the date that it begins its operations. In return, the PCDC will grant Wetzel the following benefits for up to 48 employees: $4,000 per employee with an annual salary of $60,000 or more; $3,000 per employee with an annual salary of $50,000 to $59,999; $2,000 per employee with an annual salary of $40,000 to 49,999; and $1,000 per employee with an annual salary of $35,000 to $39,999. For employees whose annual salaries are less than $34,999, the PCDC will not grant Wetzel any benefits.
Wetzel will relocate 12 employees this month and plans to expand staff immediately.
