Pflugerville Earns Two Advertising Awards From International Economic Development Council

Both winning ad campaigns were created by Austin, Texas-based Aha Communications.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas—The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) today announced that it was presented with two Silver Excellence in Economic Development Awards at the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) annual conference held Sept. 30-Oct. 3 in Houston. The awards were for two advertising campaigns created by the PCDC’s advertising agency of record, Austin, Texas-based Aha Communications.

Both awards were in the category of Paid Advertising Campaign for communities with populations of 25,000 to 200,000. The 2010 U.S. Census reported Pflugerville had 46,936 residents.

“The IEDC awards we received are recognition of the creative approach Pflugerville is taking to attract the right businesses to our growing community,” said PCDC Executive Director Floyd Akers. “Our goal with the ad campaigns was to reach our target industries—renewable energy companies, corporate headquarters and regional offices, manufacturing, warehouse and distribution, and bio-sciences—and the ads were very effective in generating interest from prospective companies wanting information about locating in Pflugerville.”

One award was given for a print advertising campaign that used info-graphics to communicate the main reasons why Pflugerville is an ideal location for businesses. The goal was to present Pflugerville’s economic development offering in a unique, fresh and different way. The ads featured ghosted line-images to represent the community’s target industries. For example, the outline of an electric car charging station was used to signify the renewable energy as a target industry.

The second award was for the Business Recruitment print advertising campaign to attract select target industries to Pflugerville. These ads also featured ghosted images to represent the desired target industry.

Using similar imagery in both ad campaigns helped maintain the brand and generate more awareness about Pflugerville and the community’s advantages for businesses such as its location in Central Texas, highway access, tax breaks and available incentives.

An overarching goal of both ad campaigns was to create print ads that stand out from other typical economic development ads that often have very similar characteristics.

The awards were presented at an awards ceremony held Oct. 2 during the four-day annual IEDC conference.

“We recognize the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation for creating innovative and successful strategies to promote economic development in this period of global recovery,” said Jay Moon, IEDC chair. “Our awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in communities. The PCDC demonstrates that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession and are using cutting-edge, effective practices that can be replicated in other communities.”

Located at the intersection of Texas’ newest highways, SH45 and SH130, Pflugerville is one of the fastest growing communities in Central Texas and the largest suburb to Austin within Travis County. Recent investments in infrastructure include more than $100 million in the water (Lake Pflugerville) and wastewater systems and major streets along. The PCDC is also developing a mixed-use, shovel ready industrial and office park, 130 Commerce Center. The PCDC offers lucrative incentives for the right projects that support the community’s economic development initiatives.
