Pflugerville Earns Top National Economic Development Award For Attracting Investments, Creating Jobs
Site Selectors Guild names outstanding economic development organizations in the U.S.; Pflugerville wins in Small Town category.
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas—The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) today announced it has been named an “Outstanding Economic Development Organization” by the Site Selectors Guild in its inaugural 2012 Excellence in Economic Development Awards. Pflugerville won in the Small Town category for communities with less than 50,000 residents.
The Site Selectors Guild Excellence in Economic Development Awards acknowledge outstanding performance and professionalism in economic development, and ultimately success in attracting investments and creating jobs within a community.
“Our efforts and success in securing millions of square footage of retail during a recession, attracting the largest solar farm in the world, and bringing renewable energy companies to Pflugerville will continue to bring momentum to our economic development efforts,” said PCDC Executive Director Floyd Akers. “We appreciate that the Site Selectors Guild has formally acknowledged our progress.”
Site Selectors Guild members will honor winners at an awards dinner during the Site Selectors Guild Conference in Orlando January 22-24. Akers will attend and accept the award on behalf of the PCDC.
“We are thrilled at this opportunity to formally recognize economic development professionals that are important to the site selection field,” said Don Schjeldahl of The Austin Company and Guild Award Committee Chair. “Without the efforts of economic development professionals it would be virtually impossible for site selectors to do our job.”
The awards are comprised of five categories defined using a formula involving population size and jurisdictional responsibilities.
The winners of the 2012 Site Selectors Guild Excellence in Economic Development Awards are:
Small Town EDO: Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (Pflugerville, Texas)
County EDO: Muncie-Delaware County ED Alliance (Muncie, Indiana)
Metro EDO: Greater Memphis Chamber (Memphis, Tennessee)
State EDO: Missouri Partnership (St. Louis, Missouri)
